Patrick De Gayardon de Fenayl nasce a Oulins, vicino Parigi, il 23 gennaio 1960. Trascorre un’infanzia tranquilla presso i nonni. Studia per undici anni nel convento dei Padri Mariani a Lione, consegue il diploma di scuola superiore, poi frequenta la facoltà di Giurisprudenza.
Prima di scoprire il paracadutismo pratica diversi sport tra cui windsurf, golf, tennis e sci.
Nel 1980, a 20 anni, Patrick De Gayardon debutta nel paracadutismo sportivo. Dal 1984 pratica base jump, disciplina la cui particolarità è il lancio lancio da basi fisse: Patrick si getta da grattacieli, tralicci e ponti. La sua passione è il freestyle: compie straordinarie figure tridimensionali in caduta libera.
E’ campione di Francia di caduta libera nel 1985 e nel 1988; diventa vice campione del mondo nel 1986 nella stessa specialità.
Nel maggio del 1989 Patrick è tra i primi pionieri praticanti di una nuova disciplina che lo renderà famoso in tutto il mondo, lo skysurf, che consiste di realizzare durante la caduta libera con una tavola da snowboard fissata ai piedi, tutte le figure proprie dello sci alpino e del surf classico.

Un estratto : Wingsuit flying is the art of flying the human body through the air using a special jumpsuit, called a wingsuit, that shapes the human body into an airfoil which can create lift. The wingsuit creates the airfoil shape with fabric sewn between the legs and under the arms. It is also called a birdman suit or squirrel suit.
A wingsuit can be flown from any point that provides sufficient altitude to glide through the air, such as skydiving aircraft or BASE jumping exit points.
The wingsuit flier wears parachute equipment designed for skydiving or BASE jumping. The flier will deploy the parachute at a planned altitude and unzip the arm wings so they can reach up to the control toggles and fly to a normal parachute landing.>>>>
